These are usually unadvertised on the home page and live on a dedicated page in the site’s footer or help section.

Because they are restricted, stores need to check you are eligible. That check is usually handled by a specialist verification service rather than the store itself — which is convenient, but worth understanding before you hand over documents.

Search the store’s site for terms like “student discount,” “military discount” or “healthcare discount,” or scroll to the footer and look for a discounts or programs link. Program details — the percentage, which items qualify, and how often you can use it — vary a lot between stores and change over time.

How verification usually works

Most programs send you to a verification partner. You enter details such as your name, school or employer, and sometimes upload a document. Once verified, you receive a one-time or reusable code, or the discount is attached to your store account.

Verification often lasts a set period, after which you re-verify. Students commonly re-verify each school year.

Protect your documents

Only verify through a link that starts on the store’s own website, never through a link in an unsolicited email or message. Upload only what is asked for, and where you can, cover anything not needed to prove eligibility — an ID number or photo that isn’t relevant to the check, for example.

Be wary of any site that asks you to pay for a discount verification or to share a password.
